A bedside clock with a shaker pad that goes under your pillow or mattress. When the alarm fires, the pad vibrates. It is the strongest wake-up signal in this category, and it is the one we recommend to anyone with significant hearing loss — including over our own wrist band.

What it does

  • 7.5 inch LED display, readable across a dark room
  • Wired shaker pad that sits under the pillow or between mattress and base
  • Snooze function
  • Mains powered, no batteries supplied
  • Unit length 175mm

We publish the figures the manufacturer publishes and no others. Vibration force is not among them — nobody in this category publishes a measured force figure, ourselves included, and we are not going to invent one.

Who this is for

  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing sleepers, particularly with hearing aids out overnight
  • Very deep sleepers who have already tried a loud alarm and slept through it
  • Anyone who wants the largest possible physical stimulus rather than the loudest sound

Who this is not for

Anyone sharing a bed who does not want their partner woken. A shaker under the mattress moves the mattress. Both people feel it. If the whole point is waking one person and not the other, buy a wrist band instead — that is a different product solving a different problem, and we sell that too.

It is also mains powered and physically tethered by a cable, so it is not a travel device.

Honest limitations

Two things reported by buyers that we would rather you heard from us first.

The snooze control sits on the shaker pad itself. Depending on how you position it, the weight of a pillow or a head can press it, which can stop the alarm. Placement matters — under the pillow rather than directly beneath where your head rests, or between mattress and base.

Some buyers describe the audible alarm tone as harsh. If sound is not what you need, the tone can be left out of your setup and the shaker used on its own.

And the general caveat that applies to every alarm we sell: whether one wakes a specific person depends on sleep stage, sleep debt, alcohol, age and hearing, not on the device alone. A shaker delivers more force than a wrist band. That is not the same as a guarantee.
