Silent alarms for light sleepers vs heavy sleepers: is there a difference?
Short answer: heavy sleepers need a silent alarm mainly for its escalating intensity; light sleepers need it mainly for containment โ same product, different reason.
Silent, vibration-based alarms are usually marketed toward heavy sleepers, but light sleepers use them too, often for the opposite reason. The underlying technology is the same โ what differs is why it works for each group.
Why heavy sleepers use them

For this group, the appeal of a vibration alarm is that it's a different kind of signal โ one that hasn't been tuned out yet, and one that can escalate in intensity without needing to become uncomfortably loud to be effective.
Why light sleepers use them
Light sleepers are, almost definitionally, easy to wake โ which usually isn't the problem. Their issue is usually the opposite: they're disturbed by things that shouldn't wake them at all, including their own alarm going off louder than necessary, or their partner's alarm entirely. For light sleepers, a silent alarm isn't about needing a stronger signal โ it's about controlling who receives the signal in the first place, so a partner's or roommate's wake-up doesn't become their own.
The practical difference in how each group should think about it
